PayPal Honey Accused of Stealing YouTube Creator Revenue
High profile YouTubers have accused Honey (PayPal acquired Honey for $4 billion cash in January 2020) of stealing referral revenue.
Honey is a browser extension (I do not use browser extensions due to privacy concerns), that applies consumer coupons at the point of online checkout.
Honey “partners” with YT creators to promote Honey’s usage.
YouTube creators have accused Honey of stealing online referral revenue at checkout by replacing YT creator promotional codes with its own codes, thereby capturing YT creator referral revenue for itself.
In addition, Honey apparently puts a cap of sorts on price discounts offered to online customers when online retailers pay Honey a fee - an insurance policy of sorts. Honey apparently does this by hiding the maximum discount offer that a consumer is eligible for and instead replaces that offer with a lesser discount.
Here’s hoping that the SEC and FTC fully investigate PayPal Honey.
